YOU can play a vital role in saving lives. Organ
transplantation is one of the most remarkable success stories
in the history of medicine. Transplants provide hope for the more
than 112,000 people now waiting for necessary organs to save their
lives. In addition, hundreds of thousands of lives can be improved
with tissue transplants. One donor can save up to eight lives
and enhance the lives of up to fifty others with eye, bone, and
tissue transplants. Sadly, an average of 18 people die every day
waiting for a transplant.
• Donation is only considered after all efforts
to save your life have been made, brain death has been declared
by two different doctors, and your family has been consulted.
• People of all ages are potential donors.
• There are no additional hospital or medical charges to
the donor family
• All major religions approve of organ donation and consider
it to be the greatest gift of all.
What you can do
• All individuals can indicate their intent to donate one
or more of their organs by signing an organ
donor card or registering on the FL
Donor Registry. Also discuss your decision with family members
and loved ones. Medical suitability for donation is determined
at the time of death.
• Become a volunteer and work with us to promote organ donor
awareness. Volunteers are needed to help with mailings, work at
local events, assist in fundraising activities, or to help with
marketing and educational programs. For more information, contact
us.
• Bob Swanson and other members of the organization are
pleased to address your community, civic, social, religious or
educational group on his experience as a transplant recipient
and the importance of becoming an organ donor.
• Corporate educational participation is always needed and
we are happy to work with your company in doing an organ donor
drive or providing educational information for your employees
through the Workplace Partner initiative.
• Financial contributions are
always needed. Consider making a personal monetary pledge or corporate
sponsorship. We can work with your marketing people to ensure
that sponsorship opportunities are maximized.
