The year following Bob's transplant
he gathered a few fellow tennis players from PGA National to help
him raise money for organ donor awareness. Bob had recently been
a heart transplant recipient himself and wanted to make people more
aware of the need for organ and tissue donation. When he learned
that there were very limited funds for such programs, he and his
fellow friends created the Bob Swanson Give A Life Foundation.
Since its inception, the Foundation has been
instrumental in working with local businesses, government and
community groups, universities and schools to introduce
organ donor awareness programs. Its members volunteer at local
events to hand out information and donor cards. And, the Foundation
works in conjunction with other non-profit organizations in combining
educational and awareness programs.
Volunteer
GAL members dedicate hundreds of hours annually
to educate the public on the many benefits of organ and tissue donation.
Volunteers are made up of people just like you from many different
walks of life. Some members are organ donors, some are organ recipients,
some are friends of donors or family to a recipient, and still others
simply want to give something back to their community. If you would
like to volunteer to help us out at one of our local 2011-2012 community
events, click here. For additional information,
