Hero - Sue Twyford

Sue Twyford, the long-time Executive Director of Sunfest died of a cerebral hemorrhage on February 1, 2003 leaving her husband, Tom, and two young children. However, when she died, she gave the gift of life.

Sue carried an organ donor card and Tom knew of her wishes to be an organ donor. Within hours her organs were giving the gift of life to others. One kidney went to a 43-year-old Miami woman who had been waiting for three years and the other kidney went to a 53-year-old teacher in Fort Lauderdale. Both lungs went to Duke University for a 34-year-old man with cystic fibrosis who had been waiting three years while Sue's liver went to a 68-year-old retired New York woman.
